Avatar review

Awesome effects and the acting is good enough.Mini threads and shades of Alien and Matrix but the meat of the whole story boils down to Red ( blue aliens ) indians who are on the side of mother nature ( Gaia tree hugging environmentalists  ) against Corporate America/marines war machine.

In Hollywood , the Corporations lose.Interesting animus of Hollywood on view .I wonder how Conservatives view this film.Hollywood functions as an  inner fantasy that salves against the reality that is diametrically opposite.

But no doubting the power and vision of the effects .Well done Cameroon.Feel like watching it all over again …this time in 3D.

PS..it has the usual plot …American joins natives who disrespect him and he wins them over by proving himself better than the natives at whatever they do ( Tom Cruise in Samurai ..or Dance with the Wolves etc etc ).And the chiefs daughter is the forbidden love who is the love interest to the local Alpha male . Very typical plot for Hollywood.Thats why the plot is totally unremarkable ….yet the acting /CGI acting is very good and the FX are just too good looking  that they cover over the deficiencies handsomely.

A.I review

A look back at A.I. I love Solaris , Aliens , hated AVP .But AI really was something else. All the themes explored in AI will be done off screen as well as the technology presents itself.

Heres a great review of it and a nice quote on Kubrick  .

Waltz with Bashir

Powerful stuff….and made by Isrealis.Credit to them. There is a secular Israel that has something special to offer all of us ….and then there is the Israeli ‘Talebannies’ who run the other half…..who have the usual basket of cranky delusions that are trashing the region.

Anyhows…..Cartoons…animations ..are the highest pinnacle of expression in the representation of motion.

Films and actors have to make compromises with the physical limitations of the camera and financial constraints of filming.Cartoons/animations have only the imagination to limit them. You can marry them perfectly to a story ..because you have no bar to representation.

Watlz with Bashir is a good example.Powerful , cruel , funny , erudite , historical and emotional. How many films can claim such a haul.

Quantum of shyte

Its a bit late for a film review but Craig whats-his-face did so well in his debut Bond film that the second was going to be a definite must-view.

What a load of Shyte.Jumpy jerky action scenes all around a plot line about a greedy utilities company trying to pick the pocket of some South American peasants.Wow…the imagination!Must be a job for Bond ( or more Ofgem prehaps ).I could’nt really see Jason Bourne falling out of bed for that one.
