It seems strange..but its obvious..why did’nt we mate and evolve to a ‘beauty’ standard.

This article seems to prove the obvious…but it is quite sinister really.Ugly babies would probably be less well likely to survive and hence the surviving population should get prettier and prettier ( according to this article) .Whether its some subliminal inner mammalian desire for stronger offspring, who knows. But why hav’nt we homogenised our face/beauty by breeding  into it our preferred characteristics ?

I think  people who perceive themselves as short or ugly and short , are some the most motivated and entrepreneurial sections of society as they try to make up for their own perceived deficiencies ( thats on an individual level). But sucessful people mate more than others and hence they spread their genes in disproportionate numbers..

The bottom line is that when it comes to raw breeding success…being ugly or short must have its advantages..because otherwise there would have been an inexorable rise of the ‘beautiful’ face and that has’nt happened in any population in the world.

The Beautiful Breed

If we choose beauty as an important factor in our breeding partners why are we not becoming more and more beautiful as we evolve?

Short and ugly people overachieve, marry top models, leading to ugly children.

Also, a small pool of upper classes leads to inbreeding to preserve their ‘race’.  Again, ugly children.

These are the feedback mechanisms that work against us, unlike in animals who constantly mate according to a visual ideal (beauty) and maintain a genetic level of uniform beauty amongst their species.

Beauty and the Symmetry

The only scientifically quantifiable indicator for beauty is actually symmetry.

The muscles in one side of the face are controlled by the opposing half of the brain.  The order of ascendancy of the lateral  half’s  of the brain change as you grow older.  Hence the more spatially inclined right side gives way to the logically inclined left side as you exit childhood (that is why most people are right handed).  If you suffer emotional turbulence in your upbringing then  there will be a radically different effect upon  each side of the brain.  The different temperments  of your brain will be observed directly on your face , as the two half’s of your face will have slightly different muscular tension.  The more temperate your childhood the more balanced the muscles will be.

Hence, symmetry demonstrates a stable growth pattern.  In later life a powerful left brained personality can overcome the turmoil of earlier years and through a period of stability can impose muscular symmetry upon the face which will disappear during  times of emotional turmoil.

To see the different halfs of your brain take a mirror and put it to a clear frontal picture of your face and place it along the mid-line.  To see the subtle differences you will have to switch quickly between the left and the right.
