Waltz with Bashir

Powerful stuff….and made by Isrealis.Credit to them. There is a secular Israel that has something special to offer all of us ….and then there is the Israeli ‘Talebannies’ who run the other half…..who have the usual basket of cranky delusions that are trashing the region.

Anyhows…..Cartoons…animations ..are the highest pinnacle of expression in the representation of motion.

Films and actors have to make compromises with the physical limitations of the camera and financial constraints of filming.Cartoons/animations have only the imagination to limit them. You can marry them perfectly to a story ..because you have no bar to representation.

Watlz with Bashir is a good example.Powerful , cruel , funny , erudite , historical and emotional. How many films can claim such a haul.

The Art of Social Exclusion

Art is about social exclusion.  When it becomes available to everyone it becomes a craft.  The wealthy define themselves against others with the objects/arts/crafts that only they can obtain.  In this we can track the evolution of realism which was highly prized until photography came along and made realism available to the masses.  Hence the invention of  modern art is a reaction against realism (which sculpture has obdediantly followed).  If it is available to everyone it is no longer socially exclusive and therefore, no longer can be defined as art.

Example:  Damien Hurst’s tacky ’Diamond Skull’ is an example of fine art because it is so ludicrously expensive no one can afford it.
